The solution is very simple though - just cut the strap "keeper" (which is currently the cinching mechanism) from the end of the webbing, loop the strap through the buckle so that the buckle is now the mechanism that cinches, and then reroute the remaining strap into the keeper strap to keep it from flapping in the wind (dont forget to sear the end of the cut strap so it doesnt fray).
